Event Description

Deepen your knowledge of research-based best practices for word recognition instruction to meet all of your students at their points of need—whether they are 4 years old, in fourth grade, age 14, or anywhere in between.

Early childhood educators and K–12 educators and literacy leaders in the Carolinas and Georgia, you’re invited to an in-person professional learning experience co-sponsored by Collaborative Classroom, hand2mind, and Charleston County D23 Schools.

Session topics will include:

For PreK early childhood educators:
• Quality Interactions in Early Childhood
• Phonological Awareness in Early Childhood
• Visual Discrimination in Early Childhood

For K–5 educators and leaders (professional learning for a general K–5 audience and for SIPPS users):
• Small-Group Reading Instruction and Mastery-based Learning
• Multisensory Supports
• Strategies for Organizing for SIPPS Instruction (for current implementers of the SIPPS program)
• Independent Work to Support SIPPS (for current SIPPS implementers)

For Middle and High School educators and leaders:
• Accelerating Foundational Skills for Older Readers
• Scheduling Considerations for Middle School
• Independent Work Session

With multiple tracks, opportunities to learn from experts and peers, and time for networking and collaboration, the Summer Literacy Summit ensures that you and your team will leave with actionable strategies, tools, and resources to implement effective word recognition instruction in any setting.

Intended audience: We welcome all early childhood educators and K–12 educators and literacy leaders in the Carolinas and Georgia. This event will offer both general and SIPPS-specific professional learning.
