Event Description

Developing High-Quality Relationships in Early Childhood Education:
Building Early Literacy, Executive Function, and Social Skills

We know that positive connections between children and adults are the foundation for child growth and development. By focusing on high-quality relationships as the basis for learning, we can ensure children develop the early literacy, executive functioning, and social skills they need to thrive in elementary school and beyond.

This hands-on institute is designed to support educators, caregivers, and program leaders who are passionate about early childhood development. It provides them with the tools and confidence to have intentional, high-quality interactions with children and cultivate safe, inclusive, and ideal early learning environments.

The institute is rooted in embedding the five SEEDS elements through engaging literacy activities:

  • Sensitivity: Look, listen, and ask questions to become aware of children’s needs, thoughts, abilities, and feelings.
  • Encouragement: Use intentional affirmations and positive non-verbal communication to create a shared positive learning environment.
  • Education: Embed the “Big 5” early literacy skills into daily routine (Oral Language and Vocabulary, Book and Print Awareness, Alphabet Knowledge, Phonological Awareness, Writing)
  • Development Through Doing: Help children explore their world through hands-on learning.
  • Self-Image: Provide a balance of the four elements, which help children feel lovable, respected, and capable.

Participants will leave the institute equipped with practical, research-based strategies to enhance their interactions and improve daily practice.
