Event Description

Elevate Your Impact: Join Us for One Session or Both!

We’re bringing two of our most powerful literacy institutes together for a powerful day of professional learning for California educators.

AM Session: Supporting New & Striving Readers with Small-Group, Mastery-Based Intervention (K–5)

Students who struggle with reading need immediate and effective support to address foundational skill gaps. This institute focuses on providing differentiated, research-based instruction to help students build the skills and confidence they need to succeed.

Grounded in professional journal articles and current studies, this session bridges research to practice. Participants will experience effective instructional routines from the SIPPS program and explore how structured literacy lessons can accelerate learning. Additionally, we’ll examine the essential characteristics of connected texts that engage struggling readers and provide meaningful practice for skill mastery.

Participants will
:

  • Unpack research from professional readings and explore implications for foundational skills instruction.
  • Experience structured literacy routines that build critical reading skills.
  • Analyze the features of connected texts that engage readers and promote mastery of foundational skills.
  • Learn strategies for designing differentiated small-group instruction to meet the diverse needs of students.
Intended Audience: Administrators, reading interventionists, coaches, literacy specialists, and educators serving elementary students.

PM Session: Developing High-Quality Relationships in Early Childhood Education: Building Early Literacy, Executive Function, & Social Skills (Pre-K/TK)

We know that positive connections between children and adults are the foundation for child growth and development. By focusing on high-quality relationships as the basis for learning, we can ensure children develop the early literacy, executive functioning, and social skills they need to thrive in elementary school and beyond.

This institute is designed to support educators, caregivers, and program leaders who are passionate about early childhood development. It provides them with the tools and confidence to have intentional, high-quality interactions with children and cultivate safe, inclusive, and ideal early learning environments.

The institute is rooted in embedding the five SEEDS elements through engaging literacy activities:

  • Sensitivity: Look, listen, and ask questions to become aware of children’s needs, thoughts, abilities, and feelings.
  • Encouragement: Use intentional affirmations and positive non-verbal communication.
  • Education: Embed the “Big 5” early literacy skills into daily routine
  • Development Through Doing: Help children explore their world through hands-on learning.
  • Self-Image: Provide a balance of the four elements, which help children feel lovable, respected, and capable.

Participants will leave the institute equipped with practical, research-based strategies to enhance their interactions and improve daily practice.

Intended Audience: All educators who are passionate about early childhood development and kindergarten readiness.
