Research in Action: Scaffolding for Independence

Join P.K. Yonge and the Center for the Collaborative Classroom for a professional learning day dedicated to:

  • Discussing issues of practice
  • Observing lessons
  • Collecting evidence of student thinking and behavior
  • Debriefing and analyzing data
  • Discussing implications for improving 

Collegial conversations and lesson experiences in Being a Reader and SIPPS will ground participants in the research and consider the following questions:

  • What evidence did you see of the balance of scaffolding and promoting independence?
  • How did the teacher’s questioning or feedback encourage deeper thinking from students?
  • What shifts in mindset or practice might be necessary to achieve similar results in your own teaching or leadership?

8:00–8:30 AM: Welcome/Registration/Coffee, Orientation to the Day
8:30–11:00 AM: Classroom Visits 
11:00 AM–12:30 PM: Lunch and Debrief
12:30–1:30 PM: Panel Q & A 
1:30–2:00 PM: Reflection/Closing
