Event Description

Improving Literacy Learning and Retention: What the Science of Learning tells us about the Value of Sufficient and Deliberate Practice in Instructional Design

Too often, schools implement a highly rated literacy curriculum only to discover that children are not retaining what has been taught. A lack of sufficient, deliberate, and research-based practice in the curriculum could be the cause.

How can literacy educators ensure that their instructional materials contain the sufficient, deliberate practice necessary for students to successfully retain new learning? When evaluating materials, what should educators look for in the instructional design?

In this webinar, literacy expert Linda Diamond will explore effectiveness in instructional design and what the science of learning tells us about the types of practice that are most effective for long-term memory and knowledge retention.

What you’ll learn:

  • How to maximize student learning and ensure that new learning is retained
  • What purposeful, deliberate practice is and why it is so important for how learning happens
  • The four components of deliberate practice and how they relate to explicit instruction
  • What the three vital types of practice are and what these practices look like in instruction
