Event Description

SIPPS: Putting the Science of Reading and Structured Literacy Instructional Tools into Practice

Join us for a quick overview webinar about SIPPS for K–12!

Exciting news for educators in Kansas: The KS Department of Education's adoption of the Science of Reading, through its Blueprint for Literacy initiative, shows a strong commitment to improving literacy outcomes for students across the state.

Do you have any involvement with this initiative, or are you looking for ways to engage with it?

SIPPS is a differentiated, accelerative, foundational skills program that develops the word-recognition strategies and skills that enable students to become independent, fluent, and confident readers. The SIPPS program identifies phonics gaps and closes them quickly.

SIPPS provides a structured literacy approach to instruction through explicit routines.

SIPPS features:

  • A systematic scope and sequence
  • Differentiated instruction taught in groups of students with similar needs
  • Periodic Mastery Tests to help educators make informed decisions about advancing students or reteaching
  • Research-based instruction aligned with the science of reading
  • Application in reading age-appropriate controlled text that includes recently taught spelling-sounds and high-frequency words

Intended Audience: K–12 district leaders, interventionists, reading specialists, instructional coaches, and educators.
