Keynote by
Dr. Steve Graham, Regents and Warner Professor, Division of Leadership and Innovations in Teachers College, Arizona State University

Session I - Dr. Steve Graham
In the Age of AI, Why Even Teach Writing? (45 minutes)

Dr. Steve Graham will discuss what the research tells us about writing as a "thinking" act and how explicitly teaching the writing process empowers teachers and writers. He will explore how teaching writing supports students in building strong critical thinking skills through organizing and communicating their ideas effectively and clearly, and how it gives students the confidence to engage as active members of a writing community.

Session II - Sue Wilder and Stacey Abeyta
Foundations of Writing Success: The Power of Community, Collaboration, and Feedback (45 minutes)

Join Sue Wilder and Stacey Abeyta, professional learning leads and long-time educators, for a fun and engaging session about the writing process. Learn how student-centered, rigorous writing instruction can build skilled and motivated writers who thrive in a classroom writing community. They will share stories and student work from their experience supporting teachers in classrooms as they examine how teaching the writing process fosters creativity, collaboration, and confidence in young writers.

This symposium kicks off our fall Power Hour series, featuring a unique series of 1-hour webinars that will focus on essential topics related to high-quality, effective writing instruction.
