We know that positive connections between children and adults are the foundation for child growth and development. By focusing on high-quality relationships as the basis for learning, we can ensure children develop the early literacy, executive functioning, and social skills they need to thrive in elementary school and beyond.
This hands-on institute is designed to support educators, caregivers, and program leaders who are passionate about early childhood development. It provides them with the tools and confidence to have intentional, high-quality interactions with children and cultivate safe, inclusive, and ideal early learning environments.
The institute is rooted in five foundational principles of relationship-based learning, explored through engaging literacy activities:
Sensitivity: Look, listen, and ask questions to stay attuned to children’s needs, thoughts, abilities, and feelings.
Encouragement: Use intentional affirmations and positive non-verbal communication to create a supportive, shared learning environment.
Education: Embed the “Big 5” early literacy skills naturally into daily routines (Oral Language & Vocabulary, Book & Print Awareness, Alphabet Knowledge, Phonological Awareness, and Writing).
Development Through Doing: Support children as they explore and make sense of their world through active, hands-on learning.
Self-Image: Balance these positive interactions to nurture children’s confidence, helping them feel respected, capable, and deeply valued.
Participants will leave the institute equipped with practical, research-based strategies to enhance their interactions and improve daily practice.
