Research-Based Writing Instruction: Five Essential Features
Featuring Dr. Steve Graham, Regents and Warner Professor, Division of Leadership and Innovations in Teachers College, Arizona State University
In this webinar Dr. Steve Graham, the lead author of the IES Practice Guide on Teaching Elementary School Students to be Effective Writers, will draw on the research base to discuss the five essential features of effective writing instruction for grades K–5.
Dr. Graham will provide practical and clear recommendations on how educators can maximize students’ development as writers. Participants will gain insights about evidence-based strategies for teaching students the writing process, supporting emerging writers, establishing an engaged community of writers, encouraging risk taking, bolstering collaboration, creating opportunities to give and receive constructive feedback, and how we can connect writing, reading, and learning so they support each other (because we know that teaching students to write makes them better readers). Please join us for a thoughtful discussion on teaching writing effectively.
